1. We should get rid of all tax breaks and the complex IRS code that goes with them. Every tax break — including HSAs and the like — leads to a grift.
2. Get rid of “non-profit” 501(c)(3) status. The incestuous relationships among government, non-profits, and business is just plain nefarious. Watch carefully what your state legislators do in this arena! See also #1.
3. Direct primary care (cash pay at time of service) or subscription-based medicine — without insurance and pharmacy benefit managers — is a better path, with catastrophic insurance purchase only for extraordinary medical needs. DPC can be less expensive for all than an insurance-based system and provide excellent results.
4. Medical providers who do not take insurance aren’t necessarily shady.
5. Medical providers must be willing to keep their patient data (and social security numbers) out of “the system.” It’s almost impossible to find providers willing to keep medical records offline and out of the clutches of government or insurance companies.
